... What do we learn about Mr Rochester and his relationship with Jane Eyre at this time from his proposal on pages 266- 269? The proposal on pages 266-269 tells the reader a lot about the character of Mr Rochester, some of which may not be apparent at first glance, which can, perhaps include romanticized views of Mr Rochester as the 'hero' of the novel and the man that Jane is in love with. However, when the extract is analysed more closely it shows a more manipulative side to his character. For example, the first part of the extract: 'Come! We'll talk over the voyage and the parting... while the stars enter their shining life in heaven yonder:' This extract, while showing that Mr Rochester is thinking about preparing for Jane's departure, is also using heavily romanticized language with the imagery of the 'shining life' of the stars and it is therefore,
