Both My Last Duchess and Porphyria's Lover are written by Robert Browning. He has presented the two poems as Dramatic Monologues. A Dramatic Monologue is simply a speech written in form of a poem, to someone who is listening. In Porphyria's Lover it's as if the lover is talking to himself in his mind but he feels he is talking to another person, this is what makes it interesting as most of the poem is in present tense so it's as if being told a story as it is happening by the person who is involved. As for My Last Duchess, it sounds as if the Duke is confessing to someone about what he has done and why. This makes it feel more realistic as
