Comparison: 'To his coy mistress' and 'Lay your sleeping head my love' By Adam Jenner This is a comparison between 'To His Coy Mistress' written by Andrew Marvell in the seventeenth century, and 'Lay Your Sleeping Head My Love' written by W.H Auden in 1937 'Lay your sleeping head' my love and 'To his coy mistress' are very similar in many respects, yet are also fairly different. On a basic level they are both poems written to a lover by the poet about love and persuasion. Yet on a deeper level they are very different in both the language and the style of writing. To his coy mistress is a highly persuasive piece of writing that tries to persuade the woman to go against what she fundamentally believes in while lay your sleeping head my love is more of a softly romantic poem showing more gentleness and compassion of love as well as
