Starting with 'Lady Lazarus', this poem is very cryptic. The poem contains many similes, metaphors and sentences that need to be deciphered before understanding the true message that Sylvia Plath is putting across. Even the title 'Lady Lazarus' has a meaning that is not evident straight away. The title of this poem 'Lady Lazarus' makes a reference to a biblical character called Lazarus, who died and then was brought back to life by Jesus. Immediately with this title, there is an indication that this poem is about a person who has been brought back to life from the dead. In the first stanza, the poem opens with the poet indicating that she has just committed an act, which she commits once every ten years. The phrase 'I manage
