When I first read the title of Heaney's poem, I almost immediately assumed that is a happy poem, probably about what he spends his holidays doing. This of course is not the case. My first reaction when I read the title On My First Sonne by Ben Johnson I thought it would be an emotional one and I was correct. Comparison: On my first Sonne is a very direct way of expressing loss, that occurs when the poet's son dies.
