On My First Sonne (Johnson) First Impression: Mid-Term Break and On My First Sonne are about the death of a close loved one and how it is dealt with emotionally and in reality. When I first read the title of Heaney's poem, I almost immediately assumed that is a happy poem, probably about what he spends his holidays doing. This of course is not the case. My first reaction when I read the title On My First Sonne by Ben Johnson I thought it would be an emotional one and I was correct. Comparison: On my first Sonne is a very direct way of expressing loss, that occurs when the poet's son dies. It is about the feelings that Ben Johnson goes through, and the poem describes his emotions and thoughts in detail.
