Auden wrote at different times and on different things, the both share the ability to turn an ordinary scenario into something extraordinary with the use of poetry. In Look, stranger, at this island now, Auden takes a moment from nature and depicts it to such an extent that it becomes almost real in the reader's mind. Auden uses his poem to convey the majesty and power of nature and does so while reminding us of the might of the sea and its surroundings. Auden does this through the use of diction, sound devices and by setting a mood and tone within the poem. In comparison, in The Early Purges Heaney takes a moment from his own life to describe the emotions of an innocent
