I have chosen to compare: * Blackberry picking by Seamus Heaney * Mali by Gillian Clarke INTRO Blackberry Picking, like a lot of Heaney's other poems, is autobiographical. There are two main themes in Blackberry Picking. Nature and Heaney's past experiences are the two themes. These two themes reoccur in many of Heaney's poems, which tell us a lot about Heaney's character such as that he is proud of his heritage and background. In the poem itself, Heaney is recreating the image and memories of picking blackberries as a child. The title, Blackberry Picking, conveys a very straightforward meaning to the poem, which is of course about 'Blackberry Picking'.
