... Compare and contrast 2 poems dealing with family relationships. In your essay, analyse the theme, images, language and form. The two poems that I have chosen to compare are 'Follower' by Seamus Heaney and 'Imitations' by Dannie Abse. I have chosen these two poems because they both have deal with family relationships between father and son. I intend to find out which poem creates a better image of the father and son relationship. The title of 'Follower' is ambiguous as it shows how the young Heaney followed his father literally and metaphorically. This compared to the title of the other poem 'Imitations' is relatively the same because they both indicate that they are looking up to someone as in 'Imitations' it is also about the son being a 'duplicate' of his father. In the 'Follower,' the child sees farming as simply imitating his father's actions "close one eye, stiffen my arm", but
