... Compare and Contrast Seamus Heaney's 'Mid-Term Break' and 'An Advancement of Learning' In this essay I am going to compare and contrast two of Seamus Heaney's poems. These poems are called, 'Mid-Term Break' and 'An Advancement of Learning.' Both poems have similarities and differences towards each other. 'Mid-Term Break' is about the passing of the poet's younger brother, and 'An Advancement of Learning' is about overcoming fears. Seamus Heaney was born in 1939 in North Ireland. Most of the poems he wrote were based on his childhood experiences. Seamus Heaney's frequent theme was how these experiences affect us. In a way the two poems have the same feel at the beginning of the poem, in 'Mid-Term Break' the beginning has a very unemotional start. "I sat all morning in the college sick bay."
