Heaney, and then Piano and Discord in Childhood by D.H. Lawrence. Seamus Heaney and David H. Lawrence are two poets from extremely different backgrounds, which is the reason their childhood feelings differ so much. Heaney was born in 1939, in the countryside in Ireland, and was the eldest of nine children. Lawrence, however, was born in 1885, in Nottinghamshire. He was the second youngest of five children. Heaney looked up to his father, whereas Lawrence was very close to his mother - Heaney grew up on a farm, and his father was looked up to and respected, as described in Follower. Lawrence's father was a coal miner, who Lawrence hated since he was a child, but he was very
