THE SONS VETO - THE WOMAN IN THIS STORY SACRIFICES EVERY THING FOR A SON WHO DOESNT EVEN CARE ABOUT HER. DO YOU THINK THIS IS THE WAY HARDY WANTED THE READER TO REACT TO THIS STORY? DO YOU? The mother doesn't marry again because of her son. Hardy presented it that way and he also purposely made the son look bad. He wanted the reader to react like the statement shows. Hardy wanted the mothers sacrifice to make a big impact on the reader but there is a chance that he never wanted this impression to come across like this. He could have wanted us to interpret it like this: the son had the problem and the mother who was causing it.
