Frankenstein essay Mary Shelley was a daughter of a philosopher and a feminist. She wrote the novel Frankenstein in 1816, when she was 19 years old. The story was originally invented when Shelley and her husband were on holiday with friends and decided to have a ghost story competition. Personally, the genre I think 'Frankenstein' will fit into is a horror story because many dreadful and disconcerting things happen. Frankenstein amuses himself by playing with dead peoples bodies, therefore somebody who does that is out of control and neurotic. He also messes about with people's graves, which makes him fearless.
