Of Mice and Men Assignment What do we learn about the relationships between the characters in the scene from their language and their behaviour? How important is the scene to the novel as a whole? Of Mice and Men is a novel written by the Nobel Prize winning author John Steinbeck and was first published in 1937. The novel is about the relationship between the two main characters George Milton and Lennie Small and the struggles and conflicts they face. Of Mice and Men was set in the farmland of the Salinas valley where Steinbeck was born and spent his summers working as a hired hand on neighbouring ranches. The book is set during the 1930's which was the time of the Great Depression, where the land of opportunity became the land of desperation. It was a decade of unemployment and high levels of poverty, with many people packing up their lives...
