Is this an adequate summing up of the way in which Hermione is vindicated and Perdita restored to her home and family? You should refer to other possible readings and interpretations in your answer. "The Winter's Tale" is a reflection of the role of women, the oppression of women but more importantly the triumph of the female characters. Women were stereotyped into specific categories as the caring, nurturing mother who listens and carries out her husband's instructions. Although the play seems to be a tragedy this tragedy is due to the corruption and insane behaviour of king Leontes. He is so caught up in his own greed and insecurities that his self- obsession grows and grows; creating jealousy that is inexplicable like an infection, poisoning his
