Much Ado About Nothing Explored
About Much Ado About Nothing
"Much Ado About Nothing" is based on two love stories. The first is that of Benedick and Beatrice who,at first sight, seem to hate each other. However their friends are convinced that they would make a perfect couple. The second couple, Hero and Claudio, are due to be married until the wicked Don John starts spreading evil rumours. Will his plans be thwarted? Will Benedick and Beatrice stop arguing and fall in love? Will love triumph and the play end with a joyful double wedding? As this is one of Shakespeare's comedies and not a blood soaked tragedy you can probably guess!
Much Ado About Nothing: What Will I Study?
Studying a Shakespeare play for GCSE English Literature usually means completing coursework essays and sitting an exam. In the exam you'll have to respond to questions based on one or two extracts from the play. Although the extracts mean you don't have to learn the play by heart, to score high marks you'll need to know the whole story and characters well.
Common topics for questions are the motivation of the characters and the likely responses of an audience watching the play unfold. You'll also have to watch TV or film versions of the play and comment on the way the director has presented Shakespeare's work. Kenneth Branagh's 1993 film of "Much Ado About Nothing" will probably be one of them.
Much Ado About Nothing... What Can I Study Next?
If "Much Ado About Nothing" has inspired you to learn more about Shakespeare then taking A Level English Literature should give you the chance to study another of his plays. After that, there's university and degree courses in literature to consider.
