Measure For Measure Explored

About Measure for Measure.

Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure" considers the themes of justice and hypocrisy. The Duke of Vienna is a kind ruler, but a bit too soft. The old laws banning sex before marriage are not being properly enforced. The Duke decides to appoint Angelo, famous for his strict views, as a deputy ruler. The first victim of Angelo's crackdown on loose morals is Claudio, who has got his fiance pregnant before their wedding. Claudio's only hope of avoiding execution lies with his beautiful sister Isabella. She pleads for his life and Angelo makes her a difficult proposition. Should she give Angelo what he wants to save her brother? Will the good Duke find out about Angelo's double standards in time? You'll have to read "Measure for Measure" to find out.
