... 'MACBETH' Shakespeare's play 'Macbeth' is set in the heart of Scotland. The king at the time is King Duncan, a noble and honest king. He has two sons and many Thanes and noble men, one being Macbeth. Macbeth has fought his way up the ranks of the army to become one of Duncan's most trusted Lords, but an encounter with three witches puts wickedness into the heart of an otherwise noble and loyal man, or is this so?, in 'Macbeth' Shakespeare explores the disparities between appearance and reality, "Fair is foul, and foul is fair' (Act 1, Scene 1) The play 'Macbeth' gives the audience plenty of opportunities to consider the reasons for the main character's actions. In this essay I will consider, in committing King Duncan's murder how far Macbeth is driven by his own ambition; how far he is dominated by his wife's; how far he is influenced by the witches; and
