The purpose of this essay is to discover whether Mark Antony was a loyal friend to Caesar or just a skilful politician working for his own ends. I shall be using secondary sources describe the background of Shakespeare and then I shall be moving on to the script looking specifically at the character Mark Antony judging him by his words and actions throughout the play. For much of Shakespeare life (1564-1616), the reigning monarch was Elizabeth I. She, her councillors and ministers governed the population of five million from London, although half a million people inhabited the capital city. Throughout the rest of the country law and order was controlled by landowners and were enforced by their deputies. An average man could not vote and their wives would have no rights at all....
