Caesar's triumphant entry into Rome after his victory over Pompey's sons made the patricians jealous of one man rule. Fearing Caesar's growing ambition fuelled be Cassius' envy of Caesar, a conspiracy was formed. Brutus and Cassius were the main conspirators, but they had completely different characters. Their reasons for killing Caesar were different. Brutus feels "It must be by his death; and, for my part, I know no personal cause to spurn at him, but for the general." He feared that once Caesar was crowned he would become a tyrant, "Crown him that, and then, I grant we put a sting in him, that at his will he may do danger with", "I have not known when his affections swayed more than his reason."
