A Comparison of the Speeches of Brutus and Mark Antony A week speech is short lived, while a great speech is remembered for eternity. William Shakespeare puts together an integrated plot based on historical fact while writing two of the most famous speeches of all time. The plot of Julius Caesar is set around Brutus and his conspirators up to the time they killed Mark Antony's best friend Caesar. It then moves to the after affects of the assassination. Marcus Brutus and Mark Anthony both have great strengths. What sets them apart are their weaknesses. Marcus Brutus' speech is a repetitious plea to the crowd. His weak points show through because he repeats himself and tries to prove why his slaying of Caesar is righteous."Romans, countrymen, and lovers hear me for my cause"(3.2.14).
