Highfield High School Rhys Owen H/W Vendetta 20/4/05 During this term we have read a selection of stories by Maupassant. For the purpose of this assignment I am going to concentrate on 'vendetta', which is a powerful story of revenge set in Corsica. A vendetta is a campaign of vicious hatred, sparked off by a crime or insult. The victim promises to be revenged and, if he cannot be satisfied, it becomes the duty of his family to carry on a feud. If the original criminal dies, revenge must be taken on a member of hi family, so vendettas can go on for generations. The duty of a vendetta of the vendetta is passed from father to son, go Maupasant's use of an old woman as the main character in his story is un usual and interesting.
