... Explore the presentation of heroes and villains In the film and consider the way in which The director chooses to examine Modern day anxieties. In the film neither the protagonist nor the Joker conform to our usual image of a hero and villain. Firstly if we compare the stereotypical visual image of a hero within a film, to Batman they differ. For example "Superman" and "Spiderman", both brightly dressed, differ from the pitch black menacing visual image of Batman. In fact as the audience first glimpse Batman, they are made to fell very apprehensive, as the setting is dull and dangerous, also thieves and tramps are lurking. From the shadows out steps a muscular black figure. As the audience we immediately feel anxious as, this figure, being Batman doesn't configure to our stereotypical image of a hero. However as a hero we still expect Batman to possess certain characteristics: intelligence, power, mystery and naturally
