Examine Helen and Jo's relationship and how it is affected by the men in their lives. 'Taste of Honey' was written by Shelagh Delaney in the 1950s. this play is about the complex, conflict ridden relationship between a teenage girl 'Jo' and her mother 'Helen' and the fleeting moments of affection and escape each of them find. The love and affection between them is also affected by the men in their lives. Helen is a middle aged woman, who is a 'semi-whore' and is a single mother to Jo, and she doesn't have a good life. Similarly Jo doesn't have a good life and has never really felt any affection from Helen. They are continually speaking inadequately about each other instance when Helen comments on Jo's weight 'that should help you lose some weight' and when Jo blames Helen for ruining her life 'ruining my life after all you've had plenty of practice'....
