A Taste Of Honey Coursework The play 'A Taste of Honey' introduces and explores many diverse and contemporary social and political issues. As the play was written in 1958 it was effortless for the playwright Shelagh Delaney to establish these various concerns and issues, but more difficult to be responsible for the audiences reactions. The political and social issues which had been occurring in the 1950's included: dysfunctional families, class division, teenage pregnancy, homosexuality, and racism. The two main characters in the play show an insight into many of these situations and issues, Helen being the mother and Jo her daughter. 'A Taste of Honey' is about the adolescent Jo and her relationships with those around her. Including her irresponsible, nomadic mother Helen and her mum's newly acquired alcoholic husband, the black sailor who leaves Jo pregnant and Geoffrey the homosexual art student who moves in to help her with the...
