A comparison between Journey's End and Billy Liar We performed our scripted production Journey's End and also studied and analysed a play called Billy Liar. Billy Liar was written by Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall and is a story of escapism. Billy Fish is torn between his daydreams and his make believe world and the harsh realities of life in a non-descript Yorkshire town of the 195o's. His inability to apply himself to all those things his parents expect of him, and to adhere to the tasteless lifestyle that those around him take for granted, force him to invent, and immerse himself in, his own realities to block out reality with its problems by the use of lies.
