The play is called An Inspector Calls and is set in 1912, at an upper class residence in an industrial part of the Midlands. It is about an upper middle class family who all had some part to play in the cause of a girl's suicide. They all admit to what happened and are shamed in turn, by a mysterious inspector; they are made to take responsibility for their actions, however, two of them still ignore their conscience (the inspector). Priestley was writing the play at around the end of world war two. He was vigorously involved in BBC radio reports around the war; he hated war. In 1944 Priestley was at the height of his writing prowess. The play is
