... Cream Cracker under the Settee Introduction Doris is a 75 year old woman who lives alone due to her husband dieing. She has no friends and is an outcast to society. The only regular contact she has with a person is with Zulema, the home help person who is employed by the "welfare". She is different from most old people because she has no friends and no family, which are the two things which elderly people rely on to keep a happy lifestyle. Also in modern society, old people, especially those who have mobility problems, usually move into smaller houses or care homes, which are more accessible but her, being a stubborn old woman, remains in her house.
