GCSE English Literature Drama: What Will I Study?
There are several exam boards, and the GCSE specifications are changing for 2010, but what you will study for the drama part of GCSE English Literature is similar for most students. You'll study a Shakespeare play, probably Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Julius Caesar or the Merchant of Venice. That means Elizabethan language and lots of looking in your study guide. On the good side , you should get to watch some telly as analysing films of the play is part of most syllabuses. If you're doing Romeo and Juliet try not to cry at the end!
You'll also look at a modern play - that means written in ordinary English. Common topics are comparing the characters, looking at the importance of the stage directions and thinking about how the playwright gets his message across to the audience.
The drama part of GCSE English Literature is assessed by exams and coursework. Most exam boards let you use a copy of the play during the exam or supervised coursework so you shouldn't have to learn the whole thing. Coursework.info has lots of examples of GCSE English Literature essays.
GCSE English Literature Drama... What Can I Study Next?
If you liked the drama part of GCSE English Literature you could carry on studying literature at A Level. You may enjoy courses in drama if the stage is your thing. Leonardo DiCaprio's Romeo might inspire you to take media studies if you enjoy films.
