The Saharan Splendor A noticeable aspect of the Sahara is its sand. This sand is not any ordinary sand found on the beach or in a sand box. It has a deep orange-yellow color, indescribable but wonderful. It would be inappropriate to call this color amber, crimson, or ocher. It is almost as if the sand has been carefully toasted to produce downy sheets of picture-perfect arid land. A potent, intoxicating effect is created by this enormous stretch of land full of inexplicably colored sand. The Sahara is renowned for its sand, but its vegetation is also noteworthy. The variety of vegetation is amazing; it is a wonder how such an arid land can be home to such a wide variety of plants. The desert flora ranges from small bushes, grassy shrubs all the way to mammoth trees. The Sahara often reminds me of a chocolate-chip cookie. The chocolate chips...
