Josh Gibbens Revenge and Retribution Detective Rebus stood on the edge of a cliff in the Lake District staring out over Loch Doom when he heard a horrible screeching. He turned his neck with lightning speed and saw a car coming at him. Everything seemed to go into slow motion. The car flew over the edge of the cliff and it plunged into the icy waters below. As Rebus waited for the emergency services to arrive, he sniffed the air. It smelled of rotting wood and dead fish. He stood on the edge of the lake and he began to think.
