How does Miller use language and dramatic devices to create tension in Act 3 of The Crucible Miller wrote The Crucible in 1952 but it was based on the Salem Witch trails of 1692. Millers play is like the McCarthy witch hunts of the 1950s but the witch hunt in 1950s are not actually searching for witches they are looking for communists. Like witches in the 1600s were the most feared thinks whereas in America in 1952 there scared of communism. If you were accused of witchery in the 1600s you were guilty because why would the witness lie and a witch wouldn't lie and the same in 1950s if you.
