Yosser's Story. "Yosser's Story" is set in the early 1980s and comments on the human misery of men demoralised by losing their jobs. "Yosser's Story" was written by Alan Bleasdale and became very popular and a critical success at the time it was first shown in 1982 as part of five plays in the series "Boys from the Blackstuff". Alan Bleasdale made people realise what the effects of unemployment were through his manic, anti-hero, Yosser Hughes, who we laugh at, yet sympathise with, as he is portrayed with such bleak hostility. "Yosser's Story" is about a thirty-six year old man named Yosser Hughes. When Yosser loses his job, he loses his home, his pride, his confidence, his wife and eventually his children; Anne-marie, Jason and Dustin.
