Sleep deprivation undermining teen health. Are you a walking zombie, deprived from sleep? Sleep is important. There are no questions, sleep deprivation has negative effects. Lack of sleep means that body and brain does not work properly. If you don't go to bed at a reasonable time, you will be unable to concentrate in class and will not learn so much. Tiredness means you may not be able to think clearly, and you may also be a danger to other people. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, for example, drowsiness and fatigue cause more than 100,000 traffic accidents each year and young drivers are at the wheel in more than half of these crashes. Is staying up really worth it? Scientists think that the body uses the time to recover and to repair damage.
