Is Magwitch a Criminal or Victim of Society? A criminal is someone who goes against or breaks the law. A Victim of Society is someone who feels victimized or lower down in the chain then the rest of the people in the society. At the beginning of the story Magwitch is presented to us as a rough looking common person. He is described as a ''fearful man'' which gives us the impression that he is an unpleasant character. Others say he is disliked by many of society and he lives as an outcast. He is described to us as a poor man, and we can also tell that by the way he was dressed 'Smothered in mud, all course in grey.' This tells us that at this moment he lives as an outcast. He is portrayed as a nasty and disloyal man, this tells us that he does not know...
