Many of the poems in the 'Different Cultures' section of the anthology are to do with identity, coming to terms with a new or different culture. Choose two or three poems and examine how successful the writers are in conveying their views about their lives and personal history. 'Search for my Tongue' and 'Presents from my Aunts in Pakistan' were my selections. Each of them examine different aspects of the poet's personal life, and relate this to their idea of their identity. And each of them comes to their own conclusion. In 'Search for My Tongue', Sujata Bhatt conveys her views about her life, and her identity, using the image of two tongues - a mother tongue (one's first language) and a second tongue (the language of the place where you live).
