Other Cultures Assessment In this essay, I will be writing about two poems which are 'Two Scavengers in a Truck, Two Beautiful People in a Mercedes' that is written by Lawrence Ferlinghetti and 'Night of the scorpion' written by Nissim Ezekiel. The poem, 'Two Scavengers in a Truck, Two beautiful People in a Mercedes,' is set early in the morning, on the highways of Downtown San Francisco, at around 9.00am. There is a couple driving to work in a Mercedes and two garbage men finishing their early mornings work, as they started at 4.00am. The poet, Lawrence Ferlinghetti is not involved in this poem as it is written in the 3rd person. He is basically describing what the differences are between the rich and poor - the rich being the cool couple in the Mercedes and the poor, the two workmen in the garbage truck.
