Half-Caste by John Agard Half-Caste is a poem written by John Agard. Because Agard was born in the Caribbean he has a Creole dialect and shows this by imprinting this dialect onto the English of the poem. Agard is a performer poet and so shows a public performance whilst reading out a poem. The First three lines can support this idea of a performance, as he addresses the audience in a very false, sarcastic upper-class language. He uses this language when he is addressing the audience when he describes himself standing on one leg, before making a statement that he is 'half-caste', this makes a visual point by showing them what half a person looks like. He uses this to make fun of their language rather than to insult them directly about their use of it and the word 'half-caste' "Excuse me standing on one leg I'm half-caste". He then...
