Poetry essay Both Not My Business and Hurricane Hits England portray violence. How do they portray it and how do the poets feel about violence. Both grace Nichols and Niyi Osundare portrays violence in different ways. In Not My Business Osundare talks about violence happening to ordinary people because of the dictator. He uses the names of the people that are affected by the violence because of the dictator so we, the reader feel more empathetic towards the victim. We can also imagine and consider how unfair and rapid it was. From that we can see how powerful the government really is. The solider dehumanizes the person being beaten up and treat the victim like an object rather than a human. We know this because in line 2 Osundare mentions "beat him soft like clay".
