Camilla Arana Comparing and Contrasting 'A Country Club Romance' and 'Two Men Sitting On a Leicester Square Park Bench' The two poems 'A Country Club Romance' by Derek Walcott and 'Two Old Black Men On a Leicester Square Park Bench' by Grace Nichols were both written in the 20th century. In this essay, I am going to analyse the many similarities and differences these two poems share. 'A Country Club Romance' is a poem that depicts a young beautiful woman who moves from Paris to Barbados, when she gets there she falls in love with a black Barbadian. However, as soon as they get married the local black community immediately ostracizes her. The second half of the poem shows the reader how she became more and more depressed, and finally kills herself. This poem is extremely powerful to read as the poet has used several metaphors of tennis to describe her life....
