The poem describes the conflict that arises when the rich and poor converge in a holiday destination on the rich. The poet imagines what I must be like to be an old woman who's only means of survival are to beg for her bread. The poem An Old woman is set in a rural Indian village that has a shrine that tourists flock to. The poem also shows the stereotypical views of old people and also of the poverty stricken people.
