... "There is going to be an exhibition of 20th century design in an art gallery. You have been asked to design an appropriate piece of merchandise to be sold in the galleries gift shop." I started by investigating the work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. I looked at many aspects of his work such as furniture, sketches, architecture and interiors. I also looked at the work by the Dutch designer Gerrit Rietveld. Rietveld and Mackintosh were extremely different as Mackintosh liked to take things from nature and incorporate them into his work using subtle and varied colours, along with long flowing lines. Rietveld, however, used mostly primary colours and straight lines. In Comparison, although Mackintosh's work was ahead of its time, Rietveld's work was a lot more modern and abstract. After looking at a lot of Mackintosh's work, I decided to incorporate his style with a few of my own ideas. I
