Fibreglass-Research and presentation Fibreglass is the colloquial name for the material Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP). A composite material is an engineered material made from two or more components. Composite materials are composed of just two phases; one is termed the matrix, which is continuous and surrounds the other phase, often called the dispersed phase. Fibreglass is classified as a composite material, which consists of strands of glass embedded in a polymer resin as the matrix. Firstly I will start by explaining the properties of the individual materials that fibre glass consists of. Glass is an amorphous material, which means there is little order in the way the atoms are arranged. This makes it transparent as there are no crystals within its structure. But more important for the application in fibre glass are its mechanical properties. Glass is a very brittle material because it is very difficult for the dislocations to move under an applied stress....
