Design Vs. Usability There is an ongoing debate about the best way to design websites. The usability experts consider that websites should be simple, and easy to use, whereas graphic designers believe websites benefit from being aesthetically pleasing and interesting. I am going to show both sides of the debate and the arguments involved. I am first going to discuss the design side of the debate. In the opinion of Nathan Shedroff seduction is a big part of design, "Most people have been either seduced or the target of seduction." He uses captology to relate to computer design. "Captology is the study of computers as persuasive technologies" This supports the design component of the debate, as he is suggesting that there needs to be sufficient design in the website to seduce users into repeatedly coming back.
