Opinion of the Scientific Committee on Food on new findings regarding the presence of acrylamide in food The Committee is asked to assess the implications for food safety of the new information on acrylamide in foods. The Committee is also asked to advise the Commission on the scientific basis for possible measures relating to acrylamide in food. The Committee is asked to give particular attention to: _ Its earlier evaluation carried out in 1991; _ The certainties and uncertainties in the available information on the sources and presence of acrylamide in foods; _ The identification of high risk sub-groups in the population; _ The identification of gaps in knowledge, which limit the Committee's assessment. In its deliberations the Committee is also asked to consider the results of recent evaluations of its sister committees in 1999 (SCCNFP, 1999) and 2001 (CSTEE, 2001), and by any other relevant organization (e.g. IARC, US-EPA).
