Assignment 1: Nutrition for sport Task 1 Nutrients are a vital part of human life. They give us the energy to live and do everyday things. Nutrients are abstracted from food when we eat. Different foods contain different nutrients. The nutrients that are essential for human life are: Carbohydrates- These are the main source of energy for the body. They are made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Starches and sugars are carbohydrates and are found in foods such as Rice, wheat, corn, and potatoes. The main function of carbohydrates is to provide the body with energy. Carbohydrates can provide about half of the bodies energy needed when resting or performing a low level activity. Fats- Fats are a concentrated source of energy. There are three types of fats that we may take into our body.
