Food for Thought Your views on food tend to be determined by where you live. For example, People in the West tend to take food for granted whereas in the third world, people work arduously for every grain of rice they eat. One woman's fight for survival is recorded in John Vidal's article "A Dance in the Shadow of Death". Famine has swept through Sudan when the widowed Acholdeng and her one-year old son Rial start their journey in search of food. For four days and three nights they eat nothing, one night Acholdeng even collapses from hunger in a sorghum fields which torments her with unripe food.
