A pilot study was run on 20 students (10 male / 10 female) and some changes were made. The main observation consisted of 40 students (20 male/ 20 female) and was a non-participant observation. Participants were selected using opportunity sampling. The main observation used time sampling to collect data. Participants were observed in the canteen on various days of the week. Observers recorded purchases made in a data grid. Each food/drink was allocated marks (1 mark for healthy foods/ 2 marks for unhealthy foods).
