'Pride is the source of the tragedy in Antigone, discuss'"' Pride is the downfall and the survival of human kind. With it, egocentric ambition leading to corruption and tyranny thrives. However, without it, growth, progression and individual determination suffers. In the Ancient Greek play Antigone, Sophocles studies the altering effects of pride or hubris on mankind. Antigone, the play"'"s heroine, provides a balanced sense of pride, which motivates her to perform good deeds, deeds that insult Creon, the tyrannical ruler, and his sense of pride. His belief in himself as an authority above the Gods themselves leads to the events that cause the tragedy of Antigone and her cursed family. It is through Creon"'"s hubris and his denial of human nature and feeling that tragedy is able to manifest itself in Antigone. As the play opens, we find that Creon"'"s original sense of pride is the catalyst for the tragedy that...
