Siobhan Biggane Chemistry Coursework Introduction For my chemistry coursework, I will investigate rates of reaction. The factor I will investigate is a change in concentration. I will see if when the concentration of a solution changes, if the rate of reaction also changes. I will be reacting hydrochloric acid with calcium carbonate. Hydrochloric acid + calcium carbonate --> calcium chloride + carbon dioxide + water. 2HCl + CaCO --> CaCl + CO + H O For particles to react, they must collide with enough energy. More successful collisions occurring mean that the reaction will be faster. The higher the temperature, the faster the reaction. The particles have more energy. They collide more often with greater force. This means there are more successful collisions. The higher the concentration, the faster the reaction.
