What affects the rate of reaction between calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid? Planning The aim is too investigate what factors affect the rate of reaction between calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid. The variable I am intending to use in the experiment is Hydrochloric Acid. I want to find out how different strengths of acid affect the speed of the rate of reaction. The variables that could affect the rate of reaction are: * Temperature * Concentration of Acid * Surface Area * Increase Pressure (this is not applicable in this experiment) * Catalyst (this is not applicable in this experiment) * Volume * Mass of Calcium Carbonate * Stirring the Solution. I will set up the experiment as shown in the diagram below.
